Built with

This site is built with Astro and started from the AstroPaper theme by Sat Naing. Pages are plain HTML generated at build time. There’s very little JavaScript: the theme toggle, a copy button, and search.

Type

Text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, with Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono for dates and other details. The Braille Institute designed Atkinson Hyperlegible for low-vision readers, with letterforms that are hard to confuse with each other. The type sizes scale smoothly with the window and respect your browser’s text size.

Colour

One accent colour, a deep teal, is used for links, figures and the underline that marks where you are. Every colour comes from a set of design tokens, and each text and graphic colour declares the contrast it has to meet. The build fails if any colour falls short, in light, dark and both increased-contrast themes.

The monogram and the underline

Apart from the JM monogram, the site has one recurring detail: a teal underline. It marks the current page in the navigation and appears along the bottom of a card when you hover over it or tab to it.
